Software Developer - Co-op

Location: Victoria, BC

At this time we are looking to add a Co-op Software Developer to our team for a 4-months fall 2017 term.  In this role, a suitable candidate will be exposed to designing, developing and maintaining our software products.

Video Producer

Location: Victoria, BC

The Video Producer’s role at Reliable Controls plays an integral part in the creation of multimedia content for the company. In this role, you will oversee each project from concept to completion. You will work closely with the art director and EVP of Sales & Marketing as well as other marketing staff to conceive, script, storyboard, shoot, capture, edit, project manage, and deliver finished videos for Reliable Controls. Categories of videos include product training “how-to” videos, customer stories, dealer stories, internal company announcement videos (quarterly meeting content), external promotional communication videos, recruiting videos as well as special events videos.

You will be part of our corporate in-house marketing department and will be required to source content and support from various departments (R&D, Operations, Training, TechComm, the Sales & Marketing) as well as Authorized Dealers and end users).   • Post-secondary education in the videography, video production, or other related field is preferred
  • Clear understanding of how to deliver a proper marketing message to our audience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop scripts 
  • Good understanding of various types of cameras, different lenses and how to create a certain shot 
  • Experience working with professional cameras (Sony PMW-F3 or similar), prosumer camcorders (Sony NXCAM HXR)
  • Experience with small format mixers, compression, EQ, effects processors, audio recording techniques for studio and field, multi-track and waveform editing
  • Experience doing post-production through digital video editing, still and motion graphics design, and video compression for multiple delivery platforms
  • Excellent proficiency at working with Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Illustrator as well as Adobe Photoshop.

Application Engineer

We are currently looking to add an experienced and motivated Application Engineer for Latin America Region to our Application Engineering team. The role reports directly to the Application Engineering Manager. This position offers a high degree of challenge, flexibility, and autonomy as well as the opportunity to work for a great company whose pioneering building technologies help to increase comfort and decrease the environmental impact of modern facilities. 

A key role of an Application Engineer is to provide service and support to 140 independent authorized dealers across the United States and Canada through guidance and support. The main goal is to develop a trusting relationship with all of our partners in the Authorized Dealer Network that fosters collaboration and mentorship. 

A selected applicant will work from their home office with occasional business travel throughout Latin America for approximately 20% of their time per year. A successful candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America and hold a valid passport for travel and entry into Canada. Applicants must already reside in the United States; relocation is not offered as a part of this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • High-level supplemental hardware/software deployment technical support to Reliable Controls’ dealers and staff.
  • Foster productive, collaborative team-oriented relationship with the Reliable Controls corporate team, especially the Regional Sales Management team.
  • Engineering support duties which include:
    * Specification compliance.
    * Guidance on compliance with industry standards, codes, and legislation.
    * Project-specific system design support and product recommendations.
    * Programming review.
  • Dealer & Operator Technical Training.
  • Sales Support includes:
    * Specification consultation.
    * Preparation and presentations on RFPs and RFQs.
    * Technical sales calls.
    * MACH-System Demonstration.
  • Development and maintenance of engineered Standard Application solution sets.
  • Development and maintenance of engineering manuals and guidelines.
  • Mentoring dealer engineering processes and application engineering development.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to the Reliable Controls Corporate Quality Policy.

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an application engineering role in the building automation system industry, particularly in system design, deployment, and support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or controls & instrumentation engineering or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal full professional, native or bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Advanced, in-depth working knowledge of the industry hardware and software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio and/or AutoCAD, experience and/or accreditation in green building concepts, BACnet®, Modbus, multi-vendor integration and/or the Reliable Controls MACH-System would be considered an asset.

Reliable Controls is growing and as a result, we have a few openings available on our Software team within the R&D department.  At this time, we would consider a wide range of technical skillsets. A strong preference will be given to the applicants with previous experience working in Agile environments.   Job Responsibilities:

  • Full lifecycle software development of Reliable Controls products
  • Writing high quality testable and efficient code
  • New features implementation
  • Participate in team code review sessions
  • Participating in team-wide test events

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a software development capacity 
  • Secondary education in related field e.g. Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering
  • Experience working in Agile environment as a member of Scrum teams 
  • Experience with both automated and manual unit testing
  • Post-Secondary education in computer science or related field
  • C#/C++/.Net/JavaScript/SQL
  • Previous hands-on working experience with enterprise scale applications 
  • Strong communication skills
