Archives New Zealand

Authorized Dealer IES Group installed a Reliable Controls building automation system at the Wigram location of Archives New Zealand. Wigram is a suburb southwest of Christchurch.

A 2,000 m² archive storage stack in the facility maintains constant conditions through the use of variable-speed air-handling units with chilled- and hot-water coils, dehumidifiers, and humidifiers. IES Group installed 15 MACH-ProAir controllers for the air-handling units.

Mechanical equipment in the facility includes gas-fired boilers, air-cooled chillers, primary and secondary chilled water pumps, primary and secondary heating-water pumps, dosing pumps, air-handling units with hot/chilled water coils and actuators, outside air variable air-volume boxes, fan-coil units, exhaust fans, return air fans, and a mechanical services switchboard. The chillers are integrated using BACnet MS/TP; the dehumidifiers use BACnet/IP. IES Group connected the controllers through firewalls on several network layers.

The key drivers in the design of the facility were security, environment, efficiency, and flexibility for future expansion while meeting the national standards of the Archives & Records Association of New Zealand.
