Project Profile: Sunset Ridge Intermediate and View Ridge Middle Schools

Sunset Ridge Intermediate School (grades 5–6) and View Ridge Middle School (grades 7–8) are housed in one building with shared core spaces. Built to accommodate 1,200 students, the facility has two levels with 44 classrooms, band and choir rooms, two gyms, a multipurpose area, a large commons, and a dedicated science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) wing. The Ridgefield School District strives to be Washington State’s premier district, leveraging strong community partnerships to provide personalized learning experiences that ensure success for all students.

Authorized Dealer Sunbelt Controls installed a Reliable Controls building automation system during construction of the Sunset Ridge Intermediate and View Ridge Middle School facility.

The mechanical system consists of air-handling units, a chiller, boilers, fan-powered boxes, variable air volume boxes, an energy recovery ventilator, and radiant slab heating and cooling. Sunbelt installed 94 MACH-ProAir, two MACH-ProCom, and 36 MACH-ProZone devices for equipment control. RC-Archive, RC-RemoteAccess, and RC-WebView software provide building operators with the flexibility of a BACnet Virtual Private Network, archived system data, and a simple interface accessed by a single sign-on.

The STEAM wing is an important part of the Ridgefield School District’s vision. Classrooms face south to maximize daylight, and the commons gives students from the two schools a place to interact.

Key aspects of the building automation system are its flexibility, ease of use, safety and security for students and staff, energy efficiency, and provision of a healthy environment that supports learning and teaching.
