Telikom is a telecommunications company in the South Pacific region that offers retail and wholesale voice and data broadband services through a digital network and extensive fiber-optic systems. Its mission is to provide outstanding service to all Papua New Guineans.
Authorized Dealer South Pacific Air Conditioning (SPAC) installed a Reliable Controls building automation system during a retrofit of Telikom’s main data exchange center in Port Moresby. Before the upgrade, Telikom had no method of monitoring its computer-room air-conditioning units, which had to be inspected hourly for issues.
To monitor five new energy-efficient computer-room air-conditioning units as well as temperature, humidity, and refrigerant levels, SPAC installed a MACH-ProWebSys, a cost-effective control solution that combines a BACnet Building Controller, a BACnet Operator Workstation, and a powerful web server in a compact package. With its built-in workstation, the MACH-ProWebSys provides building operators with remote access to the system, which means faster issue-response times and improved operational efficiency. With remote monitoring, facility operators are now notified automatically when equipment deviates from operational limits.
SPAC used RC-Studio software to interface the air-conditioning units over Modbus Remote Terminal Unit protocol and allow remote monitoring. The system sends email and SMS alerts via Telikom’s existing IT infrastructure.
The new building automation system provides efficient, automated fault detection and is backed by an uninterruptible power supply in case of prolonged power outage.
