Net-zero logo

A net-zero energy building is a building with zero net energy consumption, meaning the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is equal to the amount of renewable energy generated. A net-zero energy building produces enough energy (as through solar panels or passive heating) to offset any energy consumed.

Monterrey is the capital and largest city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León and the base for many significant international corporations. Both towers have five underground parking levels; Morada Tower 1 has 24 floors and Morada Tower 2 has 28 floors. The Oficinas en el Parque have views of the Sierra Madre mountains and the Puente de la Unidad suspension bridge.

With the goal of demonstrating that sustainable buildings are possible in El Salvador, MP Service purchased and transformed a new head office building using an integrative design process. An inhouse team of engineers and architects devised and constructed the new HVAC, lighting, and electrical systems.

Capital Centre, an office tower in Sydney, Australia, located within the Sydney Hilton Hotel, is an eight-floor tower with services independent of the hotel. Mechanical services and the ancillary plant and equipment serving the office towers were last refurbished in 2006; however, in the years following, there were issues with reliability and operating costs, which gradually escalated to undesirable and unsustainable levels. The system had also reached the end of its product support life.

A team of engineers and architects, with input from students, designed a net-zero energy building at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in San Salvador. Researchers there gather climate-related data and perform environmental experiments to investigate appropriate sustainable building technologies for the region.

Energy use, weather conditions, surface air temperature, and air velocity in the building are monitored to determine how energy consumption and thermal behavior are affected by its operation. The 1,076 square-foot structure, a living laboratory with classrooms, study areas, and offices, is the first of its kind in El Salvador.

Established in 1881, the prime purpose of Christchurch Boys’ High School was to prepare students for enrollment into the then newly formed Canterbury College, now known as the University of Canterbury. Often referred to as CBHS, the school is a single-sex, state, secondary school situated on a 12-hectare (30-acre) site, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the west of central Christchurch in New Zealand. They also have the option to learn subjects which are not traditionally taught in New Zealand secondary schools, such as philosophy, video game design, DJing, and music production.
