Net-zero logo

A net-zero energy building is a building with zero net energy consumption, meaning the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is equal to the amount of renewable energy generated. A net-zero energy building produces enough energy (as through solar panels or passive heating) to offset any energy consumed.

Best known as Torres Moradas due to their distinctive purple color, Oficinas en el Parque (Offices in the Park) are two towering steel-and-glass skyscrapers surrounded by landscaped grounds in Monterrey, Mexico. Monterrey is the capital and largest city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León and the base for many significant international corporations. Both towers have five underground parking levels; Morada Tower 1 has 24 floors and Morada Tower 2 has 28 floors. The Oficinas en el Parque have views of the Sierra Madre mountains and the Puente de la Unidad suspension bridge.


Shubra Masjed

Shubra is a busy metropolitan district of Cairo, Egypt. Densely populated, this area between the Nile and the larger districts in the northern part of Cairo is dotted with churches, mosques, and people. The new Shubra Masjed is one of the biggest mosques in Cairo and has facilities for men’s and women’s prayers, special events, washing, and a future clinic.

This project transformed the former Red Deer Bowladrom into a sustainable, LEED® Gold certified facility, housing Berry Architecture + Associates and Downey Roth Hrywkiw Fidek Chartered Accountants in an office space that features lighting, heating, and ventilation zones; open spaces with natural light; motion sensors for energy reduction; and a green roof featuring a patio, local plants, butterfly gardens, bee boxes, hummingbird nests, herb/vegetable gardens, solar panels, and water collection.

The Idaho State Insurance Fund facility is a 8,361 m2 (89,989 ft2) office building with two storeys above grade and one storey below grade, which required integrated control of all HVAC systems with the ability to provide text alarms related to server room and equipment failures.
