Swatara Township is an area of roughly 9.6 square miles in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The township was named after Swatara Creek in 1799; Swatara is thought to be from an Iroquois word for “where we fed on eels.” The region’s municipal building in the city of Harrisburg houses offices for the emergency management, parks and recreation, administration, police, fire and rescue, planning, and highway departments and serves a population of close to 25,000 people.
