Named for the founder and first director of the Geological Survey of Canada, the Sir William Logan Building houses staff from Natural Resources Canada in Ottawa. Its 21 floors are used for assembly and cultural, education and training, industrial, military, office, and storage purposes.
Authorized Dealer REL Controls installed a Reliable Controls building automation solution during a retrofit of this Canadian federal government building at 580 Booth Street. The new system replaced three competing systems and provides remote monitoring capabilities.
REL Controls configured a MACH-ProCom with subnetworks of MACH-ProAir and MACH-ProZone controllers on every floor of the building to control variable air volume and perimeter induction units. Air-handling units provide heating and cooling to the perimeter induction units, with local induction control modulating temperature inside the building. Each air-handling unit has a dedicated MACH-ProSys controller.
Controlled mechanical equipment also includes a chiller, backup generator, and domestic steam and booster pumps, and the building receives steam from a central heating plant nearby. REL Controls integrated Reliable Controls devices with the existing chiller plant and an advanced security system and completed the installation while the building was fully occupied and operational.
