The Feltham Centre is one of the largest buildings at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), serving approximately 5,000 full-time students with advanced labs, simulation centers, a lecture theatre, 57 classrooms, student lounges and meeting rooms, a computer commons, and an outdoor quad with a stage for events. Formerly the Centre for Applied Technology, the Feltham Centre was the first building at the NAIT to be LEED Gold certified by the Canada Green Building Council as part of the school’s commitment to sustainable buildings and operations.
Authorized Dealer SERV-ALL installed a simple, flexible, sustainable Reliable Controls building automation system during construction of the Feltham Centre.
Chilled beams and radiation panels made this project special. Over 600 MACH-Pro devices control chillers, a boiler, heat pumps, variable frequency drives, air-conditioning units, variable air volume boxes, and fan coils. All hardware is networked with an operator workstation installed on an internal IP network that operators use to access the system.
Exhaust air from the basement is used to pressurize the parkade for heating and ventilation, which presented a challenge for SERV-ALL in optimizing pressure levels when the parkade doors frequently open and close. Achieving ideal air pressure in the five-story atrium was also required.
LEED Canada Gold certification for New Construction and Major Renovations means the Feltham Centre excelled in sustainable design and operation. LEED-certified buildings are critical to addressing climate change, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.
