Canadian Customs Plaza

Authorized Dealer S. & T. Group installed a Reliable Controls building automation system in a new Canada Border Services Agency facility at Canadian Customs Plaza that included a MACH-ProWebCom controller and numerous MACH-ProSys, MACH-ProZone, and MACH-ProAir controllers.

The facility includes two buildings, each served by a dedicated hot-water boiler system. Multiple air-handling units provide cooling and hot-water heating to VAV boxes for individual zones. The VAV boxes also control radiant ceiling panels, and in-floor heat manifolds provide additional heating for public spaces. Hot-water force-flow heaters top up entrance vestibules and doorways. Each building also has a dedicated variable refrigerant flow system to provide temperature control for IT rooms, meeting rooms, and offices.

S. & T. Group used BACnet protocol to integrate lighting controls and space-occupancy sensors. They also implemented power and gas metering, providing building managers with efficiency insights and trending data.

This project was unique in that it required the integration of multiple systems using several protocols. Today the combination of the Reliable Controls system with hot-water heating, refrigerant-based cooling, and variable refrigerant flow equipment provides facility managers with sustainable temperature control and optimal occupant comfort.
