The Kamloops Centre for Water Quality uses innovative membrane filtration technology to provide high-quality potable water for residents and visitors to the City of Kamloops in BC’s Southern Interior. The centre also houses labs and classrooms built as part of a research and training partnership between the city and Thompson Rivers University.

Authorized Dealer Sagebrush Environmental Systems installed a Reliable Controls building automation system during construction of the Kamloops Centre for Water Quality in 2005.

The original system includes two MACH-Global controllers networked to 14 MACH-Air variable air volume controllers, each of which is networked with a SMART-Sensor device. Years after the initial installation, Sagebrush Environmental Systems added a MACH-ProSys controller to control two heat pumps in the facility.

The building’s HVAC system uses 12 air-handling units, two boilers, two heat harvesting units, and numerous exhaust and building-pressure dampers, with the primary air-handling unit dedicated to maintaining conditions in offices and training areas. Radiant floors help building managers maintain occupant comfort while reducing energy costs.

“The biggest feature of this system is the reliability of the components,” said Mike Cline, owner and general manager of Sagebrush Environmental Systems in 2023. “They’re in an industrial environment and are now 18 years old, working perfectly.”
