The Metropolitan Museum of Art presents over 5,000 years of art from around the world for everyone to experience and enjoy. Since its founding in 1870, the Met has aspired to be more than a treasury of rare and beautiful objects. Every day art comes alive in the museum’s galleries and through its exhibitions and events.

The museum has 19 collection areas, from African art to costumes, oceanic art, musical instruments, and everything in between, and eight conservation and scientific research departments. Today tens of thousands of objects are on view at any given time in the Met’s 2-million-square-foot building.

Authorized Dealer Digital Network Services installed a Reliable Controls building automation system at the Met during a retrofit project in 2015.

Thirteen MACH-Global controllers reside on a dedicated network and allow remote access to the system via a virtual private network. With the Reliable Controls system, Digital Network Services integrated HVAC and lighting control using BACnet protocol and third-party equipment.

Due to the sensitive nature of the museum’s collections, this project had to be completed with minimal down time. The Reliable Controls system allowed for easy programming and a quick, efficient installation. Maintaining temperature and humidity control is critical to preserving ideal conditions in the Met’s artifacts, art collections, conservation areas, and storage rooms.
