Originally a cement factory, Espace 400e opened in summer 2008 as the central location for Quebec’s 400th-anniversary celebrations in the city’s Vieux-Québec—Old Port district. Today the building is used by Festival d’été international de Quebec as a temporary exhibition center.
Authorized Dealer Contrôles AC installed a Reliable Controls building automation system in the Espace 400e facility during a retrofit/new construction project.
The cement factory was converted to an event space in 1984. A recent renovation project included a sustainability upgrade, with passive heating and cooling using cross ventilation and large rooftop overhangs, energy-efficient water tanks for radiant floor heating, and double glass.
Contrôles AC installed one MACH-Global controller to control the two main rooftop air-handling units and another for geothermal heat pump equipment. MACH-Zone controllers were implemented to control lighting, fan coils, and radiant floor heating and were interfaced with the geothermal and radiant floor heating systems. Contrôles AC also installed a MACH1, a rugged, flexible, fully programmable BACnet Building Controllers ideal for midsize rooftop equipment and small mechanical room applications.
