Spanning 15 acres along Victoria’s upper harbor, Dockside Green is a mixed-use development anchored by a shared passion for sustainable living, with state-of-the-art wastewater treatment, a district energy system, energy-efficient heating, and fresh air circulation. The development earned LEED Platinum certification for new construction in 2008. On completion in 2027, the project is expected to include more than 1,300 residential units and a variety of commercial, retail, and light-use spaces.
Authorized Dealer Houle Electric installed Reliable Controls building automation products in Dockside Green’s first two buildings, Synergy and Balance.
More than 260 MACH-Stat controllers provide detailed energy monitoring and control for each residential unit. Occupants have the ability to schedule occupancy and view room temperature and outdoor weather data as well as electricity, heat, and water consumption on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The system also calculates and reports the carbon footprint for each unit. Communicating efficiency data to occupants is an important aspect of a sustainable community.
“People can’t fix what they don’t know,” said Joe LeRoy, controls division manager for Houle Electric at the time of the install. “By seeing their impact right there on the wall, having a way to measure every day how their behavior impacts their emissions, they can start to set goals and make changes that will have a significant impact not only on their lives but on the planet.”
