Abby Kong

Business Development Executive for Southeast Asia

Tell us about your path into the controls industry.

My background is in computer science, and I entered the building automation industry focusing on engineering, systems integration, technical applications, and sales support. Over time, as I progressed into leadership and business operations, I realized a deeper understanding of business strategy, marketing dynamics, and management was essential to making a greater impact. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in international business, reinforcing my ability to navigate complex business challenges and drive growth. In my career path, I have focused on technology, leadership, and lifelong learning.

What do you like about working with Reliable Controls?

Reliable Controls stands by its values of authenticity and quality. What I appreciate most is the emphasis on long-term partnerships and the commitment to delivering real value to customers. The company’s strict adherence to processes, transparency, and sustainability aligns with my personal and professional values. Working with a highly professional team that shares a passion for excellence makes it even more rewarding.

What sets Reliable Controls apart from other brands in your region?

Reliable Controls focuses on high-quality solutions that prioritize long-term reliability over short-term gains. Unlike many competitors who chase aggressive expansion, Reliable Controls carefully selects its Authorized Dealers, ensuring technical excellence and shared values. The company’s commitment to strong customer support and continuous improvement makes it stand out in the industry.

What does sustainability mean to you?

Sustainability means creating long-term value while minimizing negative impact. In building automation, it means creating smart, adaptable systems that improve energy efficiency and enhance operational performance for the long term. By optimizing resource use, we can create spaces that are comfortable, functional, and responsible.

But sustainability is also about business growth and personal well-being. Businesses need the right strategies and partners to thrive. To me sustainability is about making thoughtful, future-focused decisions that inspire evolution and stability.

What advice would you like to offer women joining the industry?

The building automation industry has traditionally been male-oriented, but there is tremendous opportunity for women to make a meaningful impact. In my career I’ve faced challenges and moments of doubt, but I have learned that failures are not the end—they are valuable lessons that shape your purpose.

My advice is to embrace your strengths in emotional intelligence while building confidence in your expertise. Stay curious, keep learning, and be open to leadership opportunities when they arise.

Technical industries value skills and strategic thinking, so focus on developing in these areas, and don’t be afraid to challenge norms. A strong network also plays to key role in professional growth, so seek mentors and surround yourself with people who support your ambitions. Most importantly, trust in your ability to provide value.

Define success.

Success is about creating lasting value and impact. For me it’s measured by the ability to build meaningful relationships and continuously improve.

What else are you passionate about?

Outside work I’m excited about mentorship and education. I believe in nurturing the next generation of professionals by sharing knowledge and helping them build a strong foundation.

I also practice Tai Chi, which helps me maintain balance and focus. Tai Chi is about movement, but it’s also about harmony and resilience, qualities that are equally important in personal and professional life. I find staying grounded allows me to navigate challenges more effectively and maintain a sustainable approach to everything I do.
